Album Review: The Columbia Studio Recordings 1964-1970
I'm fairly impressed with this collection. The Columbia Studio Recordings is just about the closest I've seen to a complete, quintessential S&G, though I'll bet Tales From New York comes closer. I'd have preferred some live tracks, but the demos and remastering make the set worth it. In fact, if you want the original albums, this boxed set is the way to go. It's cheaper than buying the five remastered albums separately, and it has some nifty features. The boxed set comes with a booklet of lyrics, liner notes, and photos, and the discs come in miniature versions of the original LP sleeves. 4½ stars out of 5; only live tracks could make it better.
